I spend more time than I’d like to admit wishing I had a chocolate chip cookie and a glass of milk. I grew up next door to my best friend. She, my two younger brothers, and I had a club, and we raised money for our infamous pizza parties by charging our neighbors admission to attend plays we produced. I think college was a much better phase of life than high school. I made great friends in the calling room working my part time job as a DePauw Phonathon caller. In college and high school, I also worked as a nanny, writing tutor, and JC Penny sales associate. I live 561 miles away from my parents, and I wish I could put my hometown and Tulsa in the same place. I collect pocketknives, tea cups, quotes, and Wendell Berry books. I’m happily married to a fellow who makes my heart go pitter-patter, and we share our home with a fine canine friend named Pervus. I love to travel, read, take walks, and listen to killer beats. I never say “no” to a Coke, a cuppa tea, a shoe sale, or an ice cream. I hate house cleaning, but I sure love the way it looks when it’s done. I’m afraid of shots, dental work, snakes, and tests.
I work with our kids and teachers because I am called to public service. I believe in the power of public education to change both the lives of individuals and the world we live in. As an administrator, I believe my job is to set the conditions for teachers to work their magic by removing barriers and enabling them to build bridges to resources, best theories, and other experts.
