Thank you to everyone who applied for our 2013-2014 school year. Our lottery results have been posted on the door to the school at 3441 E Archer, any students that were accepted in the lottery will receive a letter in the mail. We are still taking applications, but all applications received will be added to the waiting list in the order they are received.

Shadowing for the 2013-2014 School Year

Dates for Shadowing visits are filling up fast! All of the December dates have already been reserved, so hurry up and schedule your visit today.

TSAS is looking for one of a kind students, just like you, to join our academic community. Participating in Shadowing and an Open House are two great opportunities to get more information.

Shadowing

We will have student shadowing beginning December 4th on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays until February 13th. Shadowing lasts from 8:00 am- 12:15 pm and includes three 70 minute classes and lunch. To schedule your student, email shadow@tsas.org or call the school at 918-828-7727 and someone will contact you to schedule your student.

Each student’s shadowing schedule is created to suit their individual interests. In order to try and build the best schedule for your child, please choose a first and second choice from the following list Algebra, Physics, Drawing, Spanish, Computer Applications, Theater, French, Drama, Jazz, Photography, Orchestra, or Java.

Open Houses

OPEN HOUSES are scheduled for Tuesday, December 18,2012 and Thursday, January 24, 2013 from 6:30-8:00 pm. This is a great opportunity for parents to see the facilities and meet the teachers. Parents and students are welcome.

About TSAS

We are a school of choice, with a college preparatory curriculum. We offer a range of AP classes, plus visual arts, jazz band, orchestra, photography, drama, musical theatre, and a health and fitness program from the Thornton YMCA. TSAS does not offer athletics, transportation, and does not have a dedicated special education teacher on staff.
TSAS is a free, public charter school, sponsored by Tulsa Public Schools. Since we are relatively small, our staff and our student body all know each other. We are able to work more closely with individual students to help them towards better understanding and comprehension. We endeavor to make the curriculum challenging in order to better prepare our students for success at the university level.

Serenade Night 2012!

The biggest and best fine and performing arts evening is here again! Serenade Night 2012: Saturday Night Live! will be held on Saturday, November 3rd from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. at the Great Hall in the Allen Chapman Activity Center, at the University of Tulsa.

Silent Auction begins at 6:00p.m. and performances at 7:00 p.m. Every year this event showcases the talents of our students and also raises all the funds to continue our great Arts programs. Performances by the jazz bands, orchestra, musical theater, a capella group and more alongside great art work for sale and an amazing silent auction– what more could you ask for?

Advance tickets are on sale now in the Fishbowl for $10, or available at the door the night of the event. Don’t miss out! Come in from the cold and support the Arts at TSAS!

Phoenix Fund

Tulsa Community Foundation announced on Wednesday a grant that will match, dollar for dollar, donations up to $93,750 to assist TSAS with immediate operating expenses resulting from the recent fire at Barnard Elementary School. The purpose of this matching challenge is to assist TSAS in raising $187,500, the estimated total cost of the transitional and instructional needs of TSAS.

Those wishing to donate to the TSAS Phoenix Fund can make a secure donation online at www.TulsaCF.org, click the “Give Now” tab and select the TSAS Phoenix Fund from the “Fund Name” drop down list. Donations may also be submitted by check and payable to TCF, TSAS Phoenix Fund to: Tulsa Community Foundation, 7030 S. Ways to Help

The TSAS Community has been extremely touched by the support of Tulsa and the surrounding areas in our time of need. Tulsa Public Schools has helped us by finding us a new home and outfitting the school with furniture, but we have lost nearly every book and office supply that we owned. We have been asked by many members of the larger community how they can help us get back on our feet.

Monetary Donations

Donations of money can be dropped off at the new location at 3441 E Archer St, Tulsa, OK 74115 or through our donation button on the webpage . These donations will be processed by the TSAS Foundation which was established in April, 2009 to serve as the clearinghouse for acquiring and distributing non-governmental funding to support the academic programs of the school. Structured as a tax-exempt 501(c)(3), the Foundation is overseen by a voluntary Board of Directors which has the appropriate resources and personnel to manage donations of all sizes.

The school would like to thank everyone for the outpouring of support of our students, teachers, and our entire community. We are proud of our school and the difference that it makes in students’s lives and we are ready to get back on our feet. Like our mascot the Phoenix we will rise from the ashes a stronger school.

A Letter from Mr. Doss

Dear Friends,

This is a sad day for the Tulsa School of Arts and Sciences community; the fire at 2324 E 17th Street has been devastating. Our community is very strong and we will recover and rebuild together. Our number one goal is to get students back into classrooms and begin to get back to a sense of normalcy. At this time, this is our plan for the road ahead:

Tulsa Public School has graciously opened the doors to Sequoyah elementary and already begun an amazing transformation, cleaning and moving equipment for our use. Our staff will meet at the school this afternoon to make strategic decisions for our new location. We are asking that students and parents not come to the school this afternoon or evening so that we can prepare ourselves.

Tomorrow we are going to have school at Sequoyah starting at 9:00 am. We will begin with a family meeting with all of the staff and students, then time to meet and talk about the future with their advisers and teachers. School will let out at 2:50. We will determine tomorrow if we will have school on Friday and will let everyone know by 2:50 via TSASNotes and Facebook.

There are a lot of questions and an overwhelming outpouring of support. We’ll have more information about how the Tulsa Community can help as soon as possible. We anticipate a public meeting in the near future.

We have said many times in the moving process that the school is not a building, but it is a community. This has never been more true than today. We will rise like our beloved phoenix from this fire together thanks to that community support.
