The TSAS Board of Trustees will have a special meeting on January 18th at 5:30pm to provide an opportunity to hear your voice about the future of TSAS in terms of location, size, curricular offerings etc…

To accommodate a larger audience, the meeting will take place at the OU-Tulsa Learning Center in room 145. The Learning Center is just off of Yale across from the McDonalds and has plenty of parking to the south and west of the building.

Also to be discussed is the 2009-2012 Strategic Plan.

On January 7th and 8th,  the TSAS Speech and Debate team competed in their very first debate since 2005.  They competed at the Jenks Trojan Tournament against competitors from all school divisions and had a successful competition:

• Senior Alex Scott made it to the finals and received a medal.
• Senior Destiny Hillhouse impressively won five straight rounds in a row to make it to the semi-finals.
• Junior Sebastian Pineda made it to the quarter finals.
• Olivia Blankenship and John Nettles also deserve recognition.

Each team member won at least one round and should be very proud….way to represent our school!!
Mrs. Fields like to thank Mrs. Nancy Ghylin, Mr. and Mrs. Wessinger, Kaitlyn Fields, and Robert Lockwood for judging the debate and chaperoning our students and I would like to thank Mrs. Fields and all of the students for their hard work over the past two months.

Shadowing Information

Open houses are scheduled for Tuesday, December 7 and Thursday, January 13 from 6:30-8:00 pm. This is a great opportunity for parents to see the facilities and meet the teachers. Parents and students are welcome to visit the school, meet teachers and get a guided tour from one of our students. Parents will also be on hand to talk about the PTSA. We look forward to seeing you there!

The students at TSAS care about those who are less fortunate.
The weeks before winter break, the National Honor Society led a drive for warm items for the homeless. The school not only met our goal of 150 donated items but more than doubled it at 442 items!

Also, the TSAS Key Club has been very busy! They recently raised over $400.00 to package food with Kids Against Hunger, and here is a picture of food they packaged last year that is now feeding hungry children in Mexico! Way to go Key Club!

Thursday, December 16 from 7-9 pm TSAS PTSA will be hosting a fundraiser to raise community awareness of our unique charter high school, as well as raise funds to support our school.  We will be showcasing groups from our very own Instrumental Music department that evening.  So get your lists together, print off the Barnes & Noble voucher and head out for a great evening of music and shopping at the 41^st & Yale Barnes & Noble bookstore!  You can even use the voucher number for on-line purchases to be credited toward TSAS PTSA.  This is also a great way for prospective students to see what we have to offer.  Mark your calendars now to attend!!!

Two TSAS Students placed in the Voice of Democracy Speech Contest sponsored by VFW Post 577 in Tulsa. The winners were: Owen Hopkins, 3rd Place and Amber Mauck, 4th Place.

The November 22nd Tulsa World features an article about TSAS Graduate Piper Connelly’s trip to India to help farmers tend their crops with natural farming techniques. The article also quotes TSAS teacher Ellen Stackable as saying “I think she is a woman of courage.”  We are proud of our students as they leave and make a difference in the world, good luck Piper.

Make sure to mark your calendar for November 13th and the 10th Annual Serenade Night, to be held at the Great Hall of the Bernsen Center at 7th and Boston. This year’s theme is “TSAS Class & Sass” and what a classy night it will be!

For those of you who have never been to Serenade Night, it is the TSAS event of the year. You will see performances by the Jazz Bands, Musical Theatre and Orchestra. Also, works of art from the Art and Photography classes will be on display and for sale. If you have a sweet tooth, desserts and beverages will be served. And if that wasn’t enough, we have a wonderful silent auction featuring great items from local shops and artists. The silent auction and desserts will begin at 6:00 p.m. and the performances will begin at 7:00.

All of the money from Serenade Night goes to support the arts programs here at TSAS, so this event is for a good cause as well as fun.

Tickets will go on sale later this month and are only $10 for the entire event.

The TSAS Foundation for Academic Excellence has begun the 2010 Annual Appeal.  The Appeal provides both stability and the opportunity for expansion for TSAS.
